Film Story

Yuli tells the story of Cuban dancer Carlos Acosta, from his beginnings in a poor neighborhood of Havana, to his renowned performances as a global ballet star. Yuli (Carlos’s nickname) is a gifted boy who doesn’t want to be a dancer. After much convincing from his father and the Cuban National School of Ballet, Acosta evolves into an unmatched dancer of his generation. In a stellar, 17-year career at the Royal Ballet in London, Acosta broke stereotypes and brilliantly embodied countless leading roles in famous ballets. Yuli is a film about roots, family, and the sacrifices of dedicating one’s life to art.
