Arturo Sotto is a Cuban writer, screenwriter and film director. He is a graduate from ISA (Higher Institute of Art) and EICTV (International School of Film and TV in San Antonio de los Baños). He was nominated twice for the Goya Award with Pon tu pensamiento en mí and Amor Vertical, films that represented Cuba at the Academy Awards. His short Talco para lo negro received prizes at La Habana, Huelva and Vitoria festivals. Amor Vertical was awarded best actress and best actor at Cartagena de Indias and Viña del Mar festivals, respectively. La Noche de los inocente was awarded the Jury Prize at Biarritz festival. He has published two volumes, Conversaciones al lado de Cinecittá (Ediciones ICAIC) and Caro Diario (Ediciones Unión). In 2016 he was selected as Director of the Year by the Asociación Latina de Críticos del Espectáculo de New York for his film Boccaccerías Habaneras. His most recent film, Nido de mantis, premiered in 2018 at the 40th Festival of New Latin American Cinema in Havana.
