Based on the eponymous novel, MEMORIES OF MY FATHER describes the life of Héctor Abad Gómez, a renowned doctor and human rights activist in the violent 1970s city of Medellin. As a result of an upbringing based on tolerance and love, there is an air of vitality and creativity in this family man, who cares as much about his children as he does about those from less privileged backgrounds.
There is nothing to suggest that a terrible cancer will eventually take the life of one of his daughters. The sadness and anger Héctor feels drives him to become fully involved in the social and political affairs of his time. But in this intolerant city, he is eventually pursued and shot by a hitman. This intimate story is told by his only son, Héctor Abad Faciolince, one of the most outstanding writers in contemporary Colombia.
