In the mid-1990s Cuba was seemingly frozen in time but, in fact, it was going through profound changes. Young people were eagerly searching for something else and embraced a new musical movement that was spreading across the island. Its leader was Kandyman and the music, reggaeton.

A mediados de la década de 1990, Cuba parecía estar congelada en el tiempo, pero en realidad estaba atravesando profundos cambios. Los jóvenes buscaban con entusiasmo algo diferente y abrazaron un nuevo movimiento musical que se estaba extendiendo por toda la isla. Su líder era Kandyman y la música, el reguetón.

Fabien Pisani

(Cuba, 1971) Fabien was born and raised in Havana. After studying and working as a musician, he moved to Paris to study literature and philosophy. For the last 20 years he has worked as an editor, producer and director between New York and Havana. In 2011 he developed and produced 7 DAYS IN HAVANA, which premiered at Cannes (Official Selection – Un Certain Regard, 2012) and the San Sebastian IFF. He is an alumnus of the Berlinale Talent Campus at Guadalajara IFF (2009), and the Screenwriters Lab organized in Oaxaca, Mexico, by the Sundance Institute (2007). His debut feature documentary EN LA CALIENTE: TALES OF A REGGAETON WARRIOR is currently touring international film festivals and reaching new audiences worldwide through presentations in academic circuits. In addition to his work in film and television, Fabien has dedicated himself to a series of endeavors in Cuba related to the promotion of its cultural capital and emerging creative economy. He founded Zafra Media magazine and the Musicabana International Music Festival. Fabien Pisani currently lives in Mexico city where he’s in post-production of his second feature documentary PARA VIVIR, The Implacable Times of Pablo Milanés.

(Cuba, 1971) Fabien nació y creció en La Habana. Tras estudiar y trabajar como compositor y músico, se trasladó a París para estudiar literatura y filosofía. Durante los últimos 20 años ha trabajado como editor, productor y director entre Nueva York y La Habana. En 2011 desarrolló y produjo 7 DÍAS EN LA HABANA, que se estrenó en Cannes (Selección Oficial – Una Cierta Mirada, 2012) y en el Festival de San Sebastián. Fabien también participó del Berlinale Talent Campus en Guadalajara (2009) y del Screenwriters Lab organizado en Oaxaca, México, por el Instituto Sundance (2007). Además de su trabajo en cine y televisión, Fabien se ha dedicado a una serie de proyectos en Cuba relacionados con la promoción de su capital cultural y su economía creativa emergente. Es fundador de la revista Zafra Media y del Festival Internacional de Música Musicabana. Fabien Pisani vive en la Ciudad de México donde se encuentra en la postproducción de su segundo largometraje documental, “PARA VIVIR, Los tiempos implacables de Pablo Milanés”.
