The Havana Film Festival New York partners with Hofstra University to kick-off its program with a free program honoring Nicolás Guillén Landrián. The Unseen Gaze: A Retrospective present the significant restoration projection unveiling the lost legacy of Cuba's pioneering black filmmaker, Nicolás Guillén Landrián, shedding light on the forgotten contributions of Landrián while illuminating the dark realities that marginalized his work. Co-sponsored by the 24th Havana Film Festival in New York, the Hofstra Cultural Center, the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Program, and the Lawrence Herbert School of Communication.

Ernesto Daranas’ new documentary Landrián (80 min), premiered at the 80th Venice International Film Festival last year, examines the reception and legacy of Guillén Landrián’s work in Cuba and abroad during his lifetime, and after. With Luciano Castillo, Breixo Viejo, Diana Vargas and Mario Murillo.
